Summary:
Engineering is the application of scientific and mathematical principles for practical purposes such as the design, manufacture, and operation of products and processes, while accounting for constraints invoked by economics, the environment and other factors. As part of the Poultry Engineering & Operations Team this individual will be primarily responsible for managing high value capital projects. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. This person should be capable of providing effective project management from project inception through construction and installation. On assigned projects, the engineer shall organize the design resources; supervise the design efforts, generate specifications, coordinate procurement and achieve the company's objectives regarding capacity, operability, economics and timelines. This person will also be involved in the selection of approved contractors and will decide which systems are best suited for a specific application and how they are to be installed. Additional duties and responsibilities include:
Be familiar with OSHA regulations and by working with Safety Coordinators, become familiar with Tyson's safety regulations; provide engineering design for new projects and utility systems. The engineer should have a working knowledge of applicable codes that pertain to development of Mechanical Engineering standards; coordinates project design work including planning, design calculations, flow sheets, Mass Balance review and validation, mechanical layouts, piping diagrams, electrical, insulation, etc. The engineer will interact with other engineering disciplines; and maintain current project knowledge of project cost and assumes responsibility for project cost management. The engineer will consult with accounting personnel relative to project accounting procedures and project costs. This person will also interact and coordinate project activities with all levels of Operations and Engineering management. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Include:
Review, update and edit bid documents created to ensure they contain project specific versions of Tyson's contracts, standards, specifications and safety documents. Coordinate Engineering disciplines to ensure that the design documents, equipment and sub-contractors selected meet Tyson's requirements and standards. Work with Capital Procurement to select General Contractors to bid on new construction and remodel projects Review all RFI's sent to Purchasing and direct them to the appropriate party for answers. Send all RFI answers back to purchasing for distribution to all bidders. In collaboration with Purchasing and Engineering Services select successful bidder on projects. Review and approve all invoices submitted for payment on projects and release any d-blocks. Review and approve all change order requests submitted on the project; creating the necessary documentation, obtaining signatures, and updating the purchase order. Coordinate and schedule all Contractor initiated outages and building closings with the appropriate leadership, to minimize its impact on team members. During the construction/ remodel phase of the project manage all disciplines and coordinate with the facility to ensure the design and equipment installation requirements are being met. Ensure that Tyson Safety's hot work and lift permit policies are in place, being followed, and records maintained. Have regular owner meetings with the Contractors, to discuss progress, delays, upcoming milestones, equipment deliveries, answer questions, and walk the site to review the projects progress. Work with the Contractors to find solutions to problems & issues as they arise. Review and log all Contractor RFI's submitted to the Architect Firm, and their response. Work with the Architecture team in inspecting completed work and developing punch lists. Inspect and sign off on corrected work. Work with MS Engineering Support to list the assets and their value, that were created on a project. source and identify new external engineering, construction management and construction resources. Other duties as assigned on poultry engineering projects Requirements Education:
B.S. in Engineering or equivalent engineering or project management experience.
Experience:

years applicable Engineering or project management experience with a minimum of 3 years' experience in the food industry preferred. Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer Skills:
Knowledge and use of computer programs, spreadsheet, database and scheduling programs. Microsoft exposure preferred. Special Skills:
Capable of working on multi-faceted projects of any magnitude while requiring limited supervision; Has demonstrated repeated ability to complete complex projects on time and on budget while achieving company objectives. Good knowledge of a variety of all Engineering disciplines concepts, practices, and procedures. Ability to egress uneven surfaces in construction and plant environments safely and easily. Travel:
50% travel. Multi-day stays required; overnight stays required.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Business Project ManagementEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
