3K a year 16 hours ago 16 hours ago 16 hours ago POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for the acquisition of skills and knowledge necessary to perform all the activities for construction, retirement, maintenance and operations of overhead and underground distribution lines and related activities under the direct supervision of qualified crew chief or lead lineman.
RESPONSIBILITIES This position is one of active training in line work with a focus on line construction and service.
Before entering this training step, the individual will have demonstrated his/her ability to work effectively on a pole.
Works on poles limited to new construction and de-energized lines.
Under emergency conditions an Apprentice I Line Tech may be assigned to assist a Construction Crew Chief, First Class Line Tech, or Line Tech on assignments involving energized lines.
Performs all ground activities and will be able to:
frame poles and hang guys on poles, hang transformers, reclosers and other equipment on cold poles only, string and tie-on conductors, lay and make connections of underground cable, prepare mounts and install transformers for new underground installation.
Insures that vehicles are kept clean and orderly and are stocked with adequate material.
Becomes familiar with policies and safety manuals.
Complies with safety rules and regulations.
Operates all transportation equipment in a safe manner and looks out for the safety of others.
Cooperates with all employees in maintaining good working relationships and high morale, exchanging ideas, information and job experience.
Will be expected to continue to perform duties of previous positions as necessary and as assigned.
Any and all other duties necessary to fulfill the objectives of the Cooperative.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education, Training, and
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must have basic knowledge of electricity.
Must be familiar with the considerable hazards that exist in falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic and falling objects and with the proper use of protective and safety equipment.
Must be able to learn first aid, CPR and pole top rescue.
Must enroll and successfully complete first year (Education) Apprentice Program.
Equipment Operated:
Must have a current driver's license without violations that would prohibit insurability and with a Class A commercial endorsement.
Must become proficient in the use of all equipment as assigned.
Abilities and Skills:
Must be able to read and interpret maps, diagrams, and technical information.
Must be able to make mathematical calculations and complete reports with accuracy and detail.
Must acquire within a reasonable time span knowledge of Material Specifications, National Safety Code, appropriate Cooperative Safety rules and regulations and policies and procedures.
Physical Effort:
Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation.
This position is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk and hear.
