Northwest Arkansas Community Correction Center - Fayetteville The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.
All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing.
Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card.
Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

00 Summary The Arkansas Department of Correction/Department of Community Correction (ADC/DCC) Correctional Officer I is responsible for maintaining security, and overseeing the work of inmates in a correctional facility or observing the behavior of residents and documenting records as required.
This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions Supervises the security and conduct of inmates in cells, during group meetings, meals, bathing, at recreation, during visitations, and on work and other assignments.
Maintains perimeter security from tower by watching for escapees and/or disturbances.
Maintains security at front gate by logging in visitors to unit.
Performs security checks of building and grounds including shakedowns and strip searches of inmates.
Maintains log for work release inmates.
Writes incident reports and takes disciplinary action on inmates/residents violating rules.
Escorts inmates/residents to visitations, court, and work assignments.
Attends shift briefing to discuss incidents, problems, and weak points in security.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Dimensions Frequent shift work, exposure to danger, and emergency on-call duty may be required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the characteristics of and response to human behavior.
Ability to monitor inmates/residents activities and write reports.
Ability to perform security checks of buildings and grounds.
Ability to conduct investigations.
Ability to exercise self-defense tactics.
Minimum Qualifications The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
